Pendragon PLC has come a long way since its de-merger from Williams PLC in 1989. The company has acquired companies and brands over the years, to further strengthen the choice to customers and potential to investors.
Early Years
Pendragon became a public limited company when the vehicle division of Williams PLC was de-merged in 1989, operating 19 car dealerships, representing specialist and luxury franchises, as well as a small contract hire business.
1990 - 1995
We acquired the Stratstone brand, enhancing our relationship with Jaguar and Land Rover, and establishing our presence in London.
1995 - 2000
The group grew significantly in this period, acquiring three major companies. Pinewood Computers was acquired first, then Evans Halshaw followed a few years after. Pinewood Computers are specialists in dealer management systems and Evans Halshaw has grown to be one of the country's leading car volume retailers.
2000 - 2005
The group grew further in the UK, acquiring 32 franchised dealerships from Lex Retail Group, and began making an impact in California, America. Pendragon PLC went on to acquire Bauer Jaguar, Hornburg and South Coast Jaguar, and two further Land Rover businesses in Newport Beach and Mission Viejo, California.
2005 - 2010
The Evans Halshaw division would continue to grow, with acquisitions of Williamson and Reg Vardy PLC and Dixon Motors Limited. This strengthened the Group's ties with locations in the north of England as they acquired Nissan, Renault and Peugeot, Citroen and Kia dealerships.
2010 - 2015
The Group's Sell Your Car scheme is launched, giving customers the opportunity to get the best price for their car with Evans Halshaw's Price Guarentee. In addition, Pendragon PLC made further acquisitions, with BMW, MINI, Dacia and Morgan retailers joining the group.
2015 - Now
Move Me Closer is launched, allowing customers to source a car online and move it to a location that suits them. A few years later, Car Store is launched, offering convenience and brand choice to customers
