History
The origins
Did you know that our company's seed was sown seven decades ago?
The origins of BKT date back to 1954 and its visionary founder Mahabirprasad Poddar, who began producing bicycle tires as a response to the growing demand for mobility in a newly independent India. What began as a courageous solo mission flourished across the subsequent years, as many joined Mahabirprasad on his journey.
The company grew rapidly under his inclusive and innovative leadership; our founding father, in fact, set the wheels in motion for a thriving family business, which was set to continue for generations to come.
The tire company
Fast-forward to 1987, and BKT officially launched as a tire company, set to become an international Off-Highway Tires business in 1995.
Once this initial plan was in motion, BKT soon counted 7000 employees across 3 continents - although this was only the beginning of our significant growth in the years to come.
BKT is renowned as a family-run company; after years of his father?s inspiring leadership, Arvind Poddar, the second generation of the Poddar entrepreneurs, foresaw the further evolution of the company, and set his sights high.

Since then, BKT has grown to become a global player in the off-highway tire market industry, owing to our ongoing commitment to continuous improvement and innovation. We are still a family-owned company but are now also a truly global business.
